Zuma explains significance of infrastructure upgrades

Jacob Zuma, the president of South Africa, has claimed that ongoing infrastructure projects could be key to unlocking the country's economic potential.

There are a range of projects currently going on in various locations throughout the country, Biz-Community reports.

Indeed, the government is investing billions in upgrading infrastructure, including improvements to the public transport network and ensuring more South Africans have access to broadband internet.

"It (the infrastructure programme) must help us to improve the overall productivity of the economy through better logistics, reliable energy supply and efficient ports," Mr Zuma said.

The president added that even though the country has come an enormous distance since the advent of democracy, it still has some way to go to reach its full economic potential.

And in order to achieve this, the government must continue to invest sizeable amounts of public money in improving infrastructure, he explained to the Black Management Forum.
