Uganda set for road infrastructure improvements

Yoweri Museveni, the president of Uganda, has commissioned the construction of the Gulu-Nimule highway, the New Vision has reported.

And Mr Museveni announced that the ambitious infrastructure project will cost as much as sh89 billion (£22.3 million).

Construction work has been delayed in recent times due to tender disputes. However, work can now go ahead, after the disagreement was recently resolved.

"We are here to launch the construction of Gulu-Atyak road and later on Atyak-Nimule road. This is what I promised you during the elections. Northern Uganda will be rehabilitated; but also developed," commented Mr Museveni.

"When we talk of rehabilitation we mean repairing all the old infrastructures. NRM is not only talking of repairing the old infrastructures but also building new ones."

The president also confirmed that the country is set to see work start on a power infrastructure project in Karuma.

The roads project should help to boost the transportation of goods around the African country, thereby boosting the economy.
