The African Development Bank (AfDB) has announced that it has extended the loan that it has given to Tanzania for the construction of roads.
Ramadhani Khijjah, working on behalf of the government, confirmed that the loan agreement was to be extended at an event in Dar es Salaam.
The construction work, which is otherwise known as Road Sector Support Project II, will see upgrade work take place on existing roads, Tanzania Daily News has reported.
It should help to ease congestion and in turn the movement of goods and people throughout the country.
"The loan will help contribute to socio-economic development, poverty reduction and integration of the regions of the country through improved transport systems that links centres of economic activity," he commented.
Mr Khijah added: "The project involved upgrading of Dodoma-Babati road of 188km and the Tunduru-Mangaka-Mtambaswala road measuring 202km."
In the long-term, it is hoped that the work will reduce road maintenance costs.
