South Africa: Eastern Cape set for fibre infrastructure roll-out

Communities on the Eastern Cape of South Africa are set to benefit from the roll-out of fibre infrastructure, itweb.co.za reports.

The infrastructure is being delivered by Dark Fibre Africa (DFA), which explained that the project is worth as much as R72 million (£5.4 million).

DFA said that the fibre is being put down across a 100km stretch of coast in the Eastern Cape region.

"End users simply don't know what 20Mbps or 100Mbps to the home means. An opportunity needs to be created for users to test drive serious broadband," explained Gustav Smit, the chief executive officer of DFA.

"DFA is here to provide a long-term, sustainable solution to the local community."

There are, of course, potential significant economic benefits of the plan, which is set to bring the region into the digital age.

Potential business opportunities are often dependent on broadband technology and the roll-out should help to improve things in this area.
