South Africa's largest trade union federation says it is ready for a battle with the government if it continues with the contentious e-tolling system in the country's economic hub of Gauteng.
The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) said it was mobilising its two million members for "the mother of all protests against the act of highway robbery set to be committed from 30 April 2012."
Cosatu's spokesperson, Patrick Craven said: "We are confident that we will be joined by thousands more angry residents and motorists who support our demand for the scrapping of these tolls and the end to privatisation and commodification of our public services, which includes our transport network".
