Sokoto state government completes road infrastructure projects

The Sokoto state government has announced that it has completed construction work on a new road system in the region, Leadership reports.

In a statement, the government said that the 23 roads project are now complete, with the working ultimately costing as much as N7.9 billion between 2007 and 2012.

"The emphasis of this administration since 2007 has been the opening up the most difficult and inaccessible areas of the state," explained Dr Rabi'u Kwankwaso, who represented the state government at a specially-arranged event to mark completion of the work.

"Roads, just like other social infrastructure, boost the socio-economic development of the people and enhance good governance."

The Nigerian government is keen to instigate accelerated economic growth and sees the improvement of key infrastructure as one of the best ways of achieving this.

By improving the country's road network, the government hopes to ease the movement of goods and people throughout Nigeria.
