'Positive discussions' take place over new bridge in Nigeria

The development of a new bridge in Nigeria may be closer after positive discussions took place between the government and a public private partnership (PPP).

According to Vanguard, coordinating minister of the Nigerian economy and minister of finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala noted a group of investors is interested in building the second Niger Bridge.

This could improve the transport system in the country and allow for more roads to be developed.

Ms Okonjo-Iweala stated: "It could turn out as one of the best private sector partnership ventures that Nigeria would do."

She continued by saying that successfully delivering such a project would highlight the country is capable of doing a PPP scheme.

The International Finance Corporation, which is a private sector arm of the World Bank, is believed to be involved.

It comes after the Star reported that the Kenyan Ministry of Roads has been asked to consider opening up highways leading to the north coast in order to ease the problems currently being caused by traffic.
