Nigeria set for power infrastructure upgrades

The Nigerian minister of power, Professor Barth Nnaji, has announced that the government is to make a concerted effort to improve power infrastructure capacity in a number of major cities, including the capital city Abuja.

Barth Nnaji confirmed that by the end of 2013, he expects residents Lagos, Aba and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to be able to enjoy 24 hours of uninterrupted power supply, the Daily Trust has reported.

And some time between 2013 and 2014, Mr Nnaji claimed that Nnewi, Onisha, Kano, Ibadan, Port Harcourt, Maiduguri and Kaduna will be in the same position, which would mark a significant step forward for the country.

Mr Nnaji made the announcement in Lagos, where he was appearing at a two-day workshop organised by the Ministry of Trade and Investment.

He said that the ten cities were chosen strategically, explaining that the locations were mapped out due to their industrialised characteristics.
