Nigeria: New power plant on course, says govt minister

The Nigerian government has announced a new infrastructure project that will form a key part of its plans to accelerate economic expansion in the west African country, Leadership has reported.

Adedeji Adeleke, the chairman of Pacific Energy, confirmed to the news provider that the government would soon start construction work on a new coal power plant in the state of Benue.

Once the construction work is complete, the new power plant will provide as much as 120 megawatts of electricity, he said.

The ground breaking of the project, which is set to cost around £4 billion, will start in the very near future.

And Mr Adeleke added that once Nigeria’s power sector is fully privitised by the end of this year, economic growth should accelerate at an impressive rate.

To this end, the Nigerian government is currently investing very heavily in a number of infrastructure projects throughout the country.
