Nigeria minister reveals plan to reconstruct Cameroon link road

A minister for the Nigerian federal government has announced plans to rebuild the Nguru-Gashua-Bayamari road in Yobe State, which is 120 kilometres long and helps to connect the country with neighbouring Cameroon.

Dr Yerima Ngama, the minister for finance, explained that the road was built during the military era in 1973 and is not fit for purpose at present, This Day reports.

But owing to the potential economic advantages of the improvement work, Dr Ngama determined that the outlay to rebuild the road will prove worthwhile in the long-term.

"I am seeking the permission of the federal government to reconstruct Amansea-Amawbia road," the finance minister explained.

"The stretch of road will cost N3 (£119.5 million). The money is in the bank."

Of course, the upgrade work will help to ease the flow of people between the two west African states as well as the movement of consumer goods, which should boost the local economy.
