Kenya's Ministry of Roads urged to adopt transport project for tourism

Kenya's Ministry of Roads has been advised to open up access to more transport routes in the nation in an attempt to encourage more tourists to visit.

Joel Ombati, a former Institute of Surveyors of Kenya honorary secretary, told the Nairobi Star that improving the country's road infrastructure would help the tourism sector.

He stated that traffic jams puts foreigners off visiting the north coast and major hotels could benefit if a bypass bridge next to Tamarind was constructed.

"[Tourists] find it hard to experience a relaxed atmosphere due to waste of time and money in the traffic and as a result they become discouraged with north coast facilities," Mr Ombati told the news source.

He urged the Ministry of Roads to open up of the Kisauni-Shanzu roads to ease congestion on other highways.

This comes after contractors were recently asked to place bids for a new road infrastructure project in Nairobi to reduce traffic in the capital, Business Daily Africa reported.
