Kenya: Odinga dubs corridor project a regional game changer

A large-scale project touted as a catalyst for economic growth in East Africa is set to be launched in Kenya early next month.
The Lamu Port–South Sudan–Ethiopia Transport (Lapsset) corridor project will be “Africa’s biggest infrastructure project and will be a game changer in terms of pushing the economic development of our economies”, says Kenya’s Prime Minister, Raila Odinga.
The project, which has a price tag of $24.6-billion and is to be implemented in phases over the next 18 years, involves the construction of various infra- structure projects that will have significant impacts on the economies of the three neigh- bours, with ripple effects across East and Central Africa extend-ing to West Africa.
The project forms the first part of the pro-posed land bridge stretching across the middle of Africa from Lamu, on the Indian Ocean coast, to Douala, in Cameroon, on the Atlantic Ocean coast.
