Kenya: GE to fund infrastructure improvements

General Electric (GE), the US-based equipment manufacturer, is working with authorities in Kenya to develop the country's infrastructure improvement.

As a result of GE's investment, Kenya's transport, healthcare and energy sectors are set for significant changes, The Star has reported.

"We intend to work together in several areas, many of these are in very early stages of discussion, others to be conceptualised as we go on," explained Mugo Kibati, the director general of Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat.

Under the terms of the deal, GE is helping to build new wind farms and improve the rail network, which should ease public transportation. To this end, the Kenyan Railway Institute will train new railway engineers and technicians.

GE explained that it will also fund the development of new machines to boost industrial output.

"This capacity building is the precursor to large scale manufacturing within the country and for the entire region," the firm said.
