Camco wins contracts for two energy projects in East Africa

Camco has announced it has been awarded contracts for two energy infrastructure projects to take place in East Africa.

The clean energy firm will go ahead with a $1 million (£641,037) solar photovoltaic clusters initiative in Tanzania, which will see solar panels installed in 15,000 homes in the country over the next three years.

It has also been given an $800,000 contract to assist with Clean Development Mechanism projects in Uganda.

Camco president Yariv Cohen said: "We believe there is now a real opportunity to create localised off-grid solutions to clean energy generation that meet local needs and conditions and that will substantially improve living standards."

The company stated that these projects could help energy infrastructure in the region, with Mr Cohen noting that 93 per cent of Tanzanians still use wood and charcoal for their energy supplies.

This announcement comes after Nigeria's minister of water resources Sarah Reng Ochekpe revealed plans to boost production of energy by developing 20 hydropower dams in the country.
