Over the next 12 months, the Altech Group, the owner of Kenya Data Network, has revealed that it intends to invest an impressive 830 million shillings to create five satellite data centres within east Africa.
The overarching purpose of the ambitious infrastructure project is for the group to solidify its competitiveness in offering leased storage services in the region.
Using the soon-to-be-built facilites, the Altech Group hopes to tap into regional financial institutions and mobile telecommunication firms, as well as government departments.
According to Craig Venter, the chief executive officer at Altech, the five satellite centres would be built in Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Democratic Republic of Congo.
Speaking to Business Daily, Mr Venter explained: "We are looking at east Africa region as one market and that is why we are putting a lot of focus in it as it provides us with untapped opportunity in data, which is our core business."
