Airtel invests $100m in Rwanda's ICT infrastructure

Rwanda is set to see an investment of $100 million (£63.52 million) for its ICT infrastructure after Airtel revealed it will put the money into a new telecoms scheme over the next three years.
The telecommunications company has stated it will invest the finance into its GSM and 3G licence in Rwanda, ComputerWorld has reported.
It was awarded the $30 million licence last week after the Rwandan government found that Rwandatel - which previously held the licence - failed to comply with obligations.
This move by Airtel is expected to boost competition in the country and lower the cost of phone calls, which could increase the number of people who have access to telecom services.
According to the Rwandan Utilities Regulatory Agency, 3.9 million people in the country use mobile phones, meaning mobile penetration has reached 38.4 per cent, the news provider revealed.
As well as in Rwanda, the Indian company has operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria, among many other African nations, totalling more than 50 million customers on the continent.
