African leaders readdress infrastructure development goals

Leaders of some African nations have recognised the need to readdress goals regarding infrastructure development projects.

The African Development Bank (AfDB), along with the UN Economic Commission for Africa and the African Union Commission, had organised a meeting for 150 participants this week to discuss how to readdress the Millennium Development Goals for the region.

The ambitions stipulated that countries that committed to the goals would help achieve international development targets by improving education, promoting gender equality and boosting medical services, among other things.

As not one fragile state in Africa has managed to fulfil their goals, the meeting was called to concentrate on plans to support the agenda.

A spokesperson from the AfDB said the leaders "recognised that new opportunities are emerging", which could see more development projects take place.

In November, the Forum on Aid Effectiveness will take place, at which a new framework outlining how the Millennium Goals will be achieved by 2015 will be announced.
