Government of Ghana - March 9, 2012
Vice President John Dramani Mahama yesterday inaugurated Ghana’s section of the Abidjan-Lagos corridor road project at Akatsi in the Volta Region.
The upgraded Akatsi- Agbozume, Akatsi- Dzodze Akanu road project, aimed at promoting regional integration and economic development, forms part of the trans ECOWAS highway to connect Ghana and other countries in the West Africa sub-region.
The multi-million dollar road project constructed under the auspices of the Ghana Highway Authority, was jointly funded by the African Development Bank, the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development and the Government of Ghana.
Vice President Mahama said the government attaches great importance to the road sector since most of the country’s good and services are conveyed by road transport.
He said Volta Region was the first region to have benefited from African Development Bank loan whose road project been completed.
That, he said, provided the evidence that the credits given to government by its development partners were being used effectively for the benefit of the people.
