Towards greater cooperation between the ADB and Gabon

17 September 2010

The Gabonese Minister of Communication, Laure Gondjout, met a representative of the African Development Bank, J. Gharbi, in order to discuss how to increase their cooperation, especially in the domain of optical fibers, reports GABONEWS.

"We are very well disposed to supporting the development effort in Gabon. Infrastructures are the pre-requisite for any development and there are very few things which can be done without telecommunications", he explained.

They also raised the possibility of the ADB financing a vast project to renovate road infrastructures, on condition that Gabon finances 40 percent of this project.

On September 7 and 8, the donor countries of the African Development Fund, one of the institutions of the ADB, met in Tunis in order to discuss their contribution over the next three years.

They agreed on an amount of 9,350 billion dollars, allocated chiefly to infrastructures, in low-income countries in Africa, according to a press release from the institution.
