Nigeria: Aviation minister reveals details of new airport
13 May 2012
The Nigerian minister for aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, has announced that the government will award a construction contract for a new airport in the capital city of Abuja.
There are a number of airport construction and improvement projects going on around Nigeria at present, with the government hoping that the work will ultimately help to stimulate the domestic economy.
Princess Oduah confirmed that the new airport in Abuja will adjourn the current international airport, Daily Trust has reported.
"What we are doing goes beyond remodeling of the airports, we are actually doing restructuring and reconstructing of the airports," Princess Oduah commented.
"We have started to go round the airport. We are doubling the sizes of those terminals and changing all the facilities and utilities within the airport."
Once the construction work is complete, the capacity of the airport's former domestic wing will double, which will boost the local economy of Abuja.
