Niger: WADB finances a renovation project on the Niamey-Ouagadougou corridor

21 January 2011

Tuesday last, the West African Development Bank (BOAD) granted funding of 24.6 million dollars to renovate and asphalting of the Niamey-Namaro-Farié road.

This project will improve a section of about 67 km on the Niamey-Ouagadougou road corridor.

"These works should enable better transport of people and goods and the development of commercial activities", Minister for the Economy and Finances, Malam Mahamane Annou, told the PANA press agency.

Moreover, the WADB announced Tuesday January 18 that in 2011 it will raise its annual commitments to 205 million dollars,  compared with 82 million dollars for the previous year.

The Bank wants to place the emphasis on food crops, among other things, to increase funding for basic infrastructures and contribute to an improvement in environmental management, the Xinhua press agency learned this week from an official source at the financial institution.
