DRC seeks funding to upgrade the port of Matadi

11 November 2009

The government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has launched an appeal to investors for a project to upgrade the port of Matadi at Kinshasa.

Minister of Finance Athanase Matenda has officially lodged the request with the African Development Bank.

Quoted in the daily Le Potential, she emphasised the importance of the project:

“The port plays a key part in the economic activity of the country in general and the Province of Lower Congo in particular”, she explained.

Ms. Matenda added that:  “The support is particularly needed in order to allow for the port infrastructures to be rebuilt with a view to meeting the needs of the anticipated economic upswing”.

Still in the DRC, another major infrastructure project has just found a source of financing. The construction project for the Katende hydroelectric dam in Western Kasaï has obtained a credit for 168 million Dollars, provided by India.<br/>
