Congo-Kinshasa: National Highway 2 in the process of upgrade

30 July 2009

Construction work on National Highway 2 in the DRC is progressing well and should be completed by 15 February 2010 at the latest.

This is the conclusion reached by the members of the co-ordination unit managing the five construction sites, who organized a visit to the area on Saturday 25 July.

Among them is the Executive Councillor of State at the infrastructure college, Kimbembe Mazung.

The work, financed by the ADB, the African Development Bank, the European Commission, and the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was started during the summer of 2008 on a trunk road linking Kinshasa with the Provinces of Bandundu, the two Kasai, Katanga, and the two Kivu.

The aim of this upgrade is in particular the widening of the roadway from 5.50 to 9 metres, in order to obtain two carriageways of 3.50 metres and 1 metre of hard shoulder, so as to improve traffic flow.
