All-Africa Energy Week to be held

5 October 2010

The African Development Bank (AfDB), in conjunction with the African Union Commission and the Economic Commission for Africa will be holding the first All-Africa Energy Week (AAEW).

It will run from November 1st to the 5th and its key objectives will be achieving "efficient, coherent and coordinated actions towards increasing energy access and developing the energy sector in Africa".

The event will hope to tackle the issue of energy infrastructure and look into ways in which the continent can enhance investments in the sector.

Attendees will be able to see an exhibition of clean energy technologies, while services that can be used to reduce poverty also be organised.

The AAEW hopes to use dialogue and partnerships to accelerate the process of attracting new interest in the region.

It comes after the AfDB revealed it wants to be in charge of funds given to Africa, with compliance and safeguards division manager Anthony Nyong observing there are a number of reasons that make it a good idea.
