AfDB Assists in Launch of Turbi–Moyale Road Upgrading Project

African Development Bank - The construction of the Turbi–Moyale road upgrading project, which is part of the third and last phase of the Mombasa–Nairobi–Addis Ababa Road Corridor Development project, was launched in Moyale, a town that straddles the borders of Kenya and Ethiopia, by Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki on Wednesday, November 7.

The Turbi–Moyale road project was approved by the Board of Directors of the African Development Bank on November 30, 2011, for a total loan amount of UA 120 million, as part of the Kenyan component of the Mombasa–Nairobi–Addis Ababa Road Development Project – Phase III. The Bank is financing 94 per cent of the civil work. The Turbi–Moyale section is the last section in Kenya to complete the Trans-African Highway from Cairo to Cape Town.
