ADB lends $150 million to develop a gas field in Tunisia

30 July 2010

A loan agreement for 150 million dollars has just been signed between the African Development Bank and the Entreprise tunisienne d'activités pétrolières [Tunisian Petroleum Enterprise](ETAP) in order to develop the gas field of Hasdrubal, in southern Tunisia.

This project involves the installation of an independent gas production and petroleum condensate system, including six production wells and an offshore platform, a plant for the production of natural gas and liquefied petroleum, a gas pipeline and an oil pipeline, reports the press release.

The aim is to reinforce energy security in Tunisia and to generate a new source of revenue for the government by exporting oil. As for the gas, it will be sold on the local market.

Also, Alstom has just been awarded an order by the Tunis transport company, for 16 additional coaches for tramways and maintenance of the entire fleet amounting to 74.7 million dollars.
