ADB grants 60 million USD for construction of a highway in Senegal

8 December 2010

Last Thursday, the African Development Bank (ADB) granted a loan of of about 60 million dollars to finance the construction of a toll road.

This project comes under a partnership between the State of Senegal, the private sector and financial backers, including, in particular, the International Finance corporation and the West African Development Bank.

Mr. Mohamed H’midouche, resident representative of the ADB, told the APS press agency that "the highway will solve some major congestion problems and provide rapid access to the city of Dakar".

Senegalese minister for air transport, Karim Wade, also announced last Thursday in Dakar the imminent launch of the new airline, Senegal Airlines.

"The aircraft of Senegal Airlines will very soon be taking off", he stated, in a quote by the newspaper El Moudjahid. According to the minister, the renegotiation of traffic rights with European airlines is also under way, so that the new airline will very soon be able to fly to and from Europe.
