45 billion USD for a road and agricultural development project in DRC

5 April 2011

Graham Smith, coordinator of the project "Development corridor in the province of Lower Congo in the South West of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)", has announced that the total bill for this program will come to 45 billion dollars, reports the Xinhua press agency.

The aim of this project is to stimulate economic development and ensure sustainable development in the Lower Congo region, in particular by improving the sectors of transport and agriculture.

The first phase concerns "activities relating to agricultural production, especially by providing technical and logistical support for local producers", explained Mr Smith at a press conference in Kinshasa last week.

The project will then concentrate on maintaining the road network in the border regions of the province of Lower Congo (Angola and Congo).

Graham Smith said that this project will commence shortly and extend over a period of five years.
