$ 1.3 million to improve highway movement in the Ivory Coast

The World Bank has granted 112,000 Dollars to the Ivory Coast in order to promote ease of movement on highways across the country, with a further 1.2 million Dollars to be added in 2010.

The funds will be used to finance a campaign for ease of movement on the highways, launched by the government in 2008.

The aim is to facilitate the movement of goods and people, while reducing the number of road blocks and control points operated by the army, which are often the cause of bottlenecks and delays.

It is this ease of movement which is currently being researched by the builders of the toll highway which is shortly going to be constructed between the Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso, for which feasibility studies are already in progress.

Koné Souleymane, technical consultant, explained to journalists from Abidjan.net that the studies have shown that “users are ready to pay (to use the motorway) but on condition that the unofficial road blocks no longer exist”.<br/>
