ICA support for successful PIDACC donors’ meeting
13 June 2016
The Infrastructure Consortium for Africa (ICA) provided important financial support to the Niger Basin Authority (NBA), helping to ensure the success of the recent PIDACC donors’ roundtable.
Organised and executed by the Niger Basin Authority, the Programme for Integrated Development and Adaptation to Climate Change (PIDACC) roundtable took place in Abuja, Nigeria on 1 June 2016.
The estimated cost of the Programme is US$274m and, following the roundtable, over US$215m was mobilised. This includes contributions from the African Development Bank (AfDB) of US$125m, the German government, though KfW, of €34 million and US$12m from the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
The AfDB will also support the countries of the NBA in ongoing discussions with other potential donors and stakeholders to complete the financing of the Niger Basin PIDACC.
The ICA’s financial support helped in the organisation of the event, in particular promotional activities and the preparation and dissemination of project data from the member countries of the Niger Basin.
This support is an example of the work of the ICA’s Water Platform, which strives to scale-up financing for sustainable water infrastructure in Africa, and is in line with the Platform’s mandate to facilitate resource mobilisation and regional programmes.
