ICA Hosts a Lively Meeting at Stockholm World Water Week
30 October 2013
In early September, 2013, ICA hosted the 2nd Water Platform Meeting at the annual World Water Week Conference in Stockholm, Sweden. This closed meeting provided a comfortable opportunity for ICA members, African Partners (including Regional Economic Communities and River Basin organizations), representatives from African Ministerial Council on Water and the African Union Comissio to hear about and discuss the on-going activities in resource mobilization and project preparation by the ICA Water Platform.
A study commissioned by the ICA, to identify investment opportunities in Non-Revenue-Water reduction and innovative financing structures in several African countries was conducted in the late spring and summer of 2013. At the closed members meeting in Stockholm, preliminary results of that study were provided by the Consultant team. The presentation was followed by a lively discussion about characteristics of sustainable programs to reduce water losses and increase efficiencies. The role of the private sector in this area and the need for a holistic approach to reduce commercial and physical losses was emphasized.
The details of the ICA contribution toward project preparation and resource mobilization for climate resilient projects in 8 countries and 5 river basins was also presented in the meeting. Accordingly, the successful results of the Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) Donors Conference in Entebbe in June 2013 were presented to the group.
Aside from the closed Water Platform meeting, the ICA also signed a memorandum of understanding with Global Water Partnership. This MOU outlines the support of the ICA to AMCOW’s (Water Climate Development Programme for Africa) which is managed by GWP.
The ICA Water Platform Meeting was co-chaired by KfW. Germany represented by KfW is leading the water related activities in the ICA.
